WHAT IS QUALITATIVE FACE FIT TESTING
Qualitative face fit testing is a simple ‘taste test’ used to check whether a respirator fits properly. A hood is placed over the wearer’s head, and a harmless tasting agent is sprayed inside. If the wearer can taste it, the mask’s seal isn’t tight enough. This ensures the respirator provides full protection against airborne hazards. You can arrange testing easily through our booking system.

HOW THE TASTE TEST WORKS
During testing, the wearer’s sensitivity to the solution is first determined. The respirator is then worn, and the same solution is sprayed inside the hood again. If the wearer cannot taste it, the mask fits correctly. This quick, cost-effective method helps confirm whether a respirator provides a proper seal for everyday workplace safety.
WHAT CAN BE TESTED WITH QUALITATIVE METHODS
At RPE2Fit Ltd in Glasgow, we can test disposable respirators (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3) and half masks fitted with particulate filters. If other PPE, such as goggles, ear defenders, or hard hats, is worn, it should also be included during testing. We can supply respirators and half masks through our online shop, and ensure all hoods are disinfected after every use.
